Kalkan

Kalkan once a small Mediterranean fishing village has lost none of its charm and character. The Old Town is located just five minutes from the apartment, has lovely white washed buildings lining cobbled streets that lead down to the harbour.

Restaurants

Kalkan is especially well known for its superb variety of restaurants and eateries. The choice is huge and there are menus to suit all tastes and pockets. Particularly popular are the roof top and harbour side restaurants. The ambiance and the views are worth the price of a meal alone.

Shops

Those who enjoy shopping are not going to be disappointed. There is an excellent mix of shops offering everything from clothing, leather goods and jewellery to local arts and crafts.

There is a market every Thursday where you can enjoy a haggle for 'genuine fake' items or buy fruit and vegetables that are guaranteed to be morning fresh.

Beaches and Beach Clubs

Kalkan has its own pebble beach which is approximately ten minutes walk from the apartment. The beautiful Patara beach is 20 minutes away by car or Dolmus (the local mini bus service). Patara has been rated to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The drive from Patara village to the beach is equally attractive with many ancient ruins including an ampitheatre along the way.

Another beautiful beach is Kaputas, only ten minutes drive from Kalkan along the road to Kas. This spectacular cove is reached by walking down 100 steps but is really worth the efort.

Kalkan also has number of beach clubs with platforms cut out of the rocks at the waters edge. All have a free taxi or water taxi service and offer a choice of total relaxation or for the more energetic. water skiing, jet skis or being pulled around behind a boat on something inflatable!

Places to visit

For those interested in history, Kalkan is in the Lycian region with numerous ancient sites close by, including: Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara. Kekova, Demre, Myra, Phaselis,Olympos and Aspendos. The harbour towns of Kas (25 mins) and Fethyie (1 hour) are also worth a visit.
